panch-tattva talk…politics at centre-stage

July 20, 2008

Friends,

The vote for proving majority by the govt is due on tuesday and the politics is at its worst at the moment. The political intrigue , deception and shifting loyalties are order of the day. Money may influence voting in some cases. In other cases new alliances may emerge with an eye on the next elections. What is surprising is the fact that the voting, though required to be voted for or agaianst the govt on nuke deal issue , is not going to be exactly with that consideration in mind and there will more of it towards settling other scores. In a way this is what the democracy is as also this is what the democracy comes to. Our choices are restricted and we have to be endorsing the parliamentary form of it only. The presidential form is not for a nation of Indian diversity and vastness. The only desirable matter is that more people with integrity and feelings for nation should be participating in the whole process.

Coming back to the present scene , I think that there should be an attempt by the conscientious MPs to somehow see that the govt stays. The nuke deal is harmless and the only thing that should matter is that it should not contain any restriction on India to persue its nuclear weapon development programme as it deems necessary. Otherwise the opening up of the nuke related exchange of technology for peaceful purposes is the need of hour for India and the rest of the world. The humanity is at such cross roads that any thing seen to be adding to non oil resources of energy is welcome. The Chinese support for it seems to be the result of the same. BJP should be some how supporting the deal for its BJP that was the initiator of the dialogue but is not doing so. This is out of character of BJP , had it not praised Indira for her Bangladesh initiative. When the general elections are even otherwise round the corner , any attempt at only bringing down a govt. which has ruled for more than four years without a major controversy.

As for the markets between now and tuesday , uncertainity will prevail. However, any extraordinery dip in values of leading stocks will be an opportunity to pick up.

On this note let us see the drama that will unfold.
